The suspect is spotted heading up an alley, so the pair pull up, Harry pauses outside a garage doorway, and goes up the alley.

Fast forward to 2009, and this location is Krausgrill Place, off Filbert Street, only a moment’s walk from Washington Square and Sts Peter Paul Church. In real life the alley is a “U” shape that is called “Krausgrill Place” at the Stockton Street end and “Medau Place” at the Grant Avenue end. Hot Mary’s window is about half way along the bottom of the “U” and is mapped by Google as Medau Place.

Today the location is virtually identical to 1971, except for new paint and some security screens on doors. Keep an eye on the architecture detail to identify the location, starting with the garage door (below). Let’s take the same walk Harry did in 1971.

There’s an excellent publicity still of Harry standing by the pole (below) which can be found on a number of public websites including imdb.com .

You can also walk up Krausgrill via Google Street View and stand by the same pole on the corner, and stand under Hot Mary’s window:

While Krausgrill Place is a public laneway the homes are private – no pie hawking allowed!

Am I right in thinking this? I can’t find any location pages for the scene where Harry stops the bank robbery and we get the first utterance of the famous lines from him …

    ??

  2. Rob says:

That’s because that particular scene was filmed on the Warner lot in LA.

  3. Robert says:

Is Hot Mary’s on the back street out of the Google Map view?

  4. Fred Helfing says:

Is it correct to say that when Harry goes down the alley and peers around the utility pole, he is looking from Krausgrill Place and actually looking down Medau Place? It seems to me that Hot Mary’s is actually on Medau place. I agree with your pictured building, just the name of the actual street the building is on.
