In 1971, 555 California was the Bank of America Center, located at 555 California Street, San Francsico. Scorpio was taking a shot at the swimming pool on top of the Hilton Financial from 4 blocks away.

A perspective of 555 California can be seen as Harry looks up from the swimming pool at 00:02:07.

In 2009, if you get a Market-side room at the Hilton Financial then below is the view you’ll have of 555 California.

Harry turns left off Montgomery St into Pine St – which is actually the opposite direction somebody walking from the Hilton to 555 would come from. As he turns the corner the Ritz Carlton can be seen on top of the hill – that’s the white building (upper left of the above frame) with 4 tall dark windows. Below is how it looks in 2009:

You gotta get onto the top of 555 California somehow and take a pic of the now disused pool …

What company is located there now?

  2. Rob says:

Many companies have offices in 555 California. Bank of America used to own the building but sold it in the wake of its so-called “merger of equals” with NationsBank. I recall many financial services companies having located their West Coast trading floors in this building, back when San Francisco was the West Coast financial services capital (sadly, this is no longer the case).

I have the Dirty Harry boxed set. Love those films, especially the first! I am currently visiting S.F. On vacation and I’m enjoying this website. I’ve only looked at the pool and Scorpio’s view links so far andI already feel like I know where these places are…thanks!

So evocative of my early teen years watching this film with my mum dad and two older brothers..love it to this day! The soundtrack is awesome as is everything Lalo Shifrin has done and so is the script and Clint Eastwood and everyone on this film. So atmospheric and brilliantly acted. I look back and think “Wow – I loved this film when I first saw it when I was a young girl and hey-it still is awesome!” thanks!
